Everyone loves a top 10, so we’ve dived into our stats and created a list of the 10 most searched for colours on Alamy- as well as an excuse to look at nice images it’s also an opportunity to explore image buying trends! We’ll be looking at more keyword trends in future blogs, so if you have any suggestions of what you’d like us to explore, then let us know in the comments.
We’ve recently introduced a colour filter to our search tools, so now customers who want images in a particular colour can find them easier and quicker than ever. To use our new colour filter, click on the colour wheel on the left hand side of the search results page. It works really well!

It’s often debated whether white is actually a colour, but when we searched our site we were reminded just how powerful white can be in photography. Lots of lovely things come in white – think of snow, polar bears and ice cream…

2.Ìýµþ±ô²¹³¦°ì
This is so high up in our list because people often search for black & white photography. It’s amazing how much character and class can be portrayed through the absence of colour. We have loads of great black and white photography in our collection, head over to our category now to see our pick of the best.

Red can really pop out at you. It’s a colour that makes us think of little spotty lady birds, fiery red sunsets and all things love and romance.

When we think blue, we think tropical islands, a beautiful clear ocean that seems to go on forever, and a cloudless sky (sorry for depressing you in February). Want to escape your inbox for a minute? Explore our travel category for holiday inspiration.

We were a little surprised at how high up grey appeared on this list and racked our brains for why it might be. Our thoughts so far are grey hair, 50 Shades of Grey and the great British weather…(not sure what that says about us!)

6.Ìý³Ò°ù±ð±ð²Ô
Green brings us beautiful landscapes, incredible nature photography, rainforests, fields and plants. This image of the rice terraces in Longsheng Guangxi, China shows just how wonderful green can be. For more amazing landscape images like this take a look at our landscape category.

Another wildcard entry on the list, brown is a colour that you might think of as dull, but when we explored the collection we found loads of incredible images in brown tones including our personal favourite, these mischievous looking brown bears.

8.Ìý±Ê³Ü°ù±è±ô±ð
When searching our collection for purple images we came across rolling lavender fields, sparkling amethyst and breathtaking flowers – we now put it down as one of nature’s prettiest shades.

9.Ìý±Ê¾±²Ô°ì
There are so many lovely things associated with the colour pink – flamingos, rosy cheeks, marshmallows, candyfloss, princess costumes…(It’s been a long time since we had our princess costume on, sigh…..)

10.Ìý³Û±ð±ô±ô´Ç·É
Yellow is the most vibrant colour in our top 10, and although it can sometimes appear garish, it will brighten up any image. We are imagining endless hours of sunshine, vibrant sunflowers and of course the most iconic yellow of all a New York taxi cab.
