It’s important that you’re uploading content that appeals to customers so you can maximise sales. We’re seeing a rise in instructional content being searched for and specifically requested by customers.
So if you’re looking to increase sales, this rising demand for instructional images is a great place to start. When shooting this kind of content, there are some simple rules that you can keep in mind to help you achieve the best results.
What are instructional images?
Instructional images are a series of shots that contain steps in order to show a certain subject. An example of this would be a simple step-by-step process of how to make slime at home. The images tend to be of an educational nature.
Think about your angle
Make sure the angles and composition are exactly the same for each shot so the images look identical. Particularly for step-by-step content.
Lighting
Ensure that the lighting set up is the same for each of the images in the series. This will be easier if you’re using an artificial lighting set up. With natural lighting it may be harder but make sure you’re shooting all images at the same time of day.
Captions and tags
This is crucial when it comes to instructional images. If you don’t annotate the images correctly, they won’t be found. In your caption it’s vital you include the numbered steps, ‘Step 1 of 8’, for example. This is so the sequence of your step-by-step images can be found using this phrase. Other good tags to include are ‘instructional’, ‘step-by-step’, ‘photo instruction’ and ‘step-by-step instruction’.
Picture Need
We currently have a picture need for instructional content for our educational customers. Think science experiments across physics, biology and chemistry subjects. This could be anything from electrical circuits, Bunsen burner testing, test tube sampling of open water etc. More inspiration of the kind of images we’re after can be found in this lightbox.
If you’re uploading educational instructional content to your account that fits these examples, please email contributors@alamy.com to let us know.
