When you think of your parents, or perhaps your grandparents, do you associate them with leading a particularly active lifestyle? Jogging, swimming, or going to the gym regularly? The older generation in my family has three hip replacements between them; so strenuous exercise is not on the agenda, and it seems they aren’t the only ones.

, more than a quarter of the world’s adult population are insufficiently active meaning they don’t meet the recommended 150 minutes of moderate-intensity, or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity physical activity per week. They have created a global action plan which aims to decrease physical inactivity in adults by 15% by 2030.

But many older adults are taking the initiative to lead an active lifestyle. The images in this Actively Ageing collection highlight the content we have of the older generation pushing back, and taking up a more fitness-led lifestyle.
