This blog article from 2016 has been kept live for archival purposes.
Keep your photography choices on trend – in this blog we explore the changing photography styles in some key stock photo themes. Looking at images from 10 years ago compared to images from today, we explore image styles and discuss how and why things have changed in business, lifestyle, travel and food photography.
Use our date taken filter to find images that are new, or sort your search ‘results’ by new to see all the latest images first.
Business images
As with most photography trends, the changing style of business images runs parallel with a change in the way we do business in general. In the last 10 years we have seen a shift from large corporate businesses being at the forefront to an influx of smaller businesses and online companies. Although the content of business images has remained similar – business people interacting in an office environment – the change has been in the style of office and the type of business.

Travel
The rise in mobile photography has had a big impact on the shift in travel photography over the last decade. In 2000, the trend in travel photography was ‘wow’ landscapes and high impact images taken with a DSLR. But now, everyone has a camera so we are seeing a trend towards the undiscovered; small side streets, undiscovered areas and natural street photography packed full of local people going about their day to day lives.

Lifestyle
There has been a shift in ‘lifestyle’ photography which has been dictated by the advertising and marketing agencies, who now want to focus on ‘real people’ and are less interested in staged images that consumers can’t relate to. Mobile photography has had a huge impact on lifestyle photography too, with our mobile collection Stockimo we see thousands of candid lifestyle images being uploaded to ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏevery week.

Food
We have already mentioned the rise of mobile photography a couple of times in this blog, and of all the image themes we are discussing it has had by far the biggest impact on food photography. We have gone from ‘food shoots’ with specially prepared dishes in perfectly lit studios, to someone taking a quick snap of their pizza with their smart phone.
A change in food trends has also has had an impact on the type of photography we see. Healthy eating and the emergence of food as a lifestyle product has created a new wave of food photography.
