In a world that seems to move at lightning speed and technology makes itself obsolete daily, you’d be forgiven for thinking that there’s no time to unwind. But everyday, millions of Instagram users explore the world from the comfort of their seats. On the other side though, there’s a photographer who’s doing the real exploring.
ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏcontributor is one of those photographers. As a member of Alamy for 15 years, he’s had over 3000 images sold and is touching the $300,000 milestone. But like many photographers, Jamie started off with humble beginnings back-packing in Southeast Asia (how popular is this idea now!) with his Olympus OM1.
There couldn’t be a better person to document cultures around the world as Jamie has a background in ethnology. Travelling with sensitivity, you’ll see plenty of character in Jamie’s photos so why not stay a while, unwind from your busy day and travel the world via Jamie’s extensive collection of images.
Advice from Jamie:
For those looking to succeed at stock photography, a good place to start is to work on having mastery of your bow and multiple targets to aim at. What I mean is that if you have an interest in any particular discipline, subject matter or place, or if indeed you have any degree of expertise in something, then you have a better grounding for covering that particular subject comprehensively and converting your knowledge into well-captioned, targeted imagery. Consider your hobbies or studies. Explore your hometown or the places you live or have lived. Research what you’re interested in and work out how you can increase your catalogue of material on those themes or places.
With regards to travel and location-based photography, try and shoot imagery that depicts the diversity of human life worldwide. There is a need for imagery depicting local people and culture in regional settings. The possibilities are almost endless and span the mesmerising gamut of humanity.
